According to a Longboat Key Police Department report, a boat has sunk in a canal at General Harris Street.

A neighbor told police a boat behind a canal-facing house that had been vacant since the 2024 storms had begun to take on water recently and sunk completely in February. Longboat Key Fire Department evaluated the scene and determined the vessel was not leaking fuel, according to Marine Patrol Officer Gregg Pescuma. LKPD is now working with Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission to get the derelict vessel removed.

The boat, which the police report describes as a 25-foot mullet boat, is currently tied to land with a red strap.
