A Sunday morning call to the Sarasota County Sheriff's Office over unusual and worrying statements about a friend led to the discovery of two gunshot victims in a Lakewood Ranch home, both of whom have now died, law enforcement authorities said Monday.

According to an update from the Sheriff's Office, friends called 911 around 10:30 a.m. Sunday to request a welfare check at a home on Tides Circle in a community off Lakewood Ranch Boulevard. Once there, deputies discovered Lily Z. Yard, 27, shot to death and Jordan M. Rouff, 40, with a serious, self-inflicted wound. Rouff later died at the hospital.

Deputies say the two had recently moved in together and experienced a sporadic relationship.

Family has been notified, and the investigation is continuing.

A fatal shooting in the Sarasota County segment of Lakewood Ranch on Sunday morning appears to be an isolated incident without danger to the public, the Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office said.

Deputies were called to the 7000 block of Tides Circle, in a residential community off Lakewood Ranch Boulevard about a mile south of University Parkway, around 10:36 a.m. on a welfare check of a resident. Once there, they found a person who had been fatally shot and another who had been wounded.

The wounded person was transported to a hospital for treatment.
