Baby Boomers are selling their homes in record numbers.

According to Fox Business, those 55+ are opting to rent instead, eager to cash in on the equity they’ve been building for years.

In fact, the share of 55+ renters has risen over 30% in the last decade, according to US census data.

Unlike preceding generations, Baby Boomers are rejecting the idea of ‘traditional’ or ‘old’ senior housing options and are, instead, prioritizing the pursuit of hobbies, interests, and a healthy, active life.

This shift in expectation has exposed a neglected niche in the real estate market. There is a sizable demand for alternative living options with more flexibility and freedom, but very few communities currently catering to the unique desires of this generation.

But, there is one local developer who has taken notice. Known for pioneering The Floridian Club of Sarasota — a nationally recognized rental community designed “by Baby Boomers, for Baby Boomers” — The Barrington Group is now bringing its trademark long-term lease concept to Manatee County with their newest development, Ellenton Landings.

Combining a conventional rental concept with the perks of homeownership, such as customization, permanence, and a neighborhood-feel, Ellenton Landings will offer a refreshing alternative for today’s 55+ renter.

The resort-style community is anticipated to feature spacious two-bedroom single-story villa homes with private entrances, attached garages, and modern finishes.

But the true heart of Ellenton Landings will be its lifestyle. As Americans reach retirement age in record numbers, a sense of community becomes increasingly important in their home considerations. According to a recent review article published by researchers at Rutgers University, men and women are 50% more likely to live longer when they have strong social relationships.

And BGI is listening. Their new community will feature an expansive amenity center, infused with many of the same health-minded amenities responsible for The Floridian Club of Sarasota’s active reputation, like a robust 24-hour fitness center, pickleball courts, and nature trail, plus wellness programs for residents. Not to mention a beach entry resort pool, bar, club room, and an on-site event planner to curate fun, diverse events and activities created specifically for the evolving preferences of its residents.

Ellenton Landings will be conveniently located in Ellenton, 2 miles off I-75 and just minutes from all the very best shopping, dining, and Florida’s world-famous Gulf Coast beaches.
