Michael Christopher has always enjoyed the thrill of a casino game – but not the gamble that goes with it. “I personally enjoy casino games, but I also don’t really like gambling,” he said. “So, I was trying to find a way of providing them without the risk of gambling.”
Inspired by this irony, he took a chance two years ago and started Casino Craft, a company that rents gaming supplies, equipment and dealers for parties and poker nights. It was a daring move for someone who usually prefers predictability – and so far, it’s paying off.
Customers have ranged from corporations and nonprofit organizations hosting special events to nursing homes and individuals who are hosting a poker night or celebrating a birthday.
Casino Craft has four standard games – blackjack, craps, roulette and poker – but customers aren’t limited to those. “Our blackjack tables can be converted into other games like Ultimate Texas Hold ’Em, three-card poker and other card games,” Christopher said.
His company rolls the dice and deals the cards in Southwest and Central Florida, from Ocala to Naples and Tampa Bay to Orlando. Customers can choose to rent only the tables and all the supplies needed to play each game, or they can also hire the company’s professional dealers.
One of Casino Craft’s early customers opted for full service.
“We had a client that was opening a showroom in downtown Sarasota, and they wanted a public event where everybody could play their casino games,” said Christopher, who has extensive experience in event planning. “This was the first time we had more than three tables being rented at one time.”
About 250 guests attended and rotated through the games. The evening ended with a raffle for charity. “It was a lot of fun and that client has asked to do this again sometime soon,” he said.
