Key Chorale, Sarasota’s bold symphonic chorus, announced that Artistic Director and CEO Joseph Caulkins has signed a 10-year contract extension, ensuring that the group's innovative programming and community impact will continue.

At the same time, the chorus welcomed four new vocalists to its professional ranks: tenor Erick Crow, soprano Heather Weiskerger, baritone Stephen Lusmann and soprano Emmy Grate.

Key Chorale also announced two promotions. Trish Ivey, previously director of marketing, steps into the expanded role of general manager, while Lori Maxwell, who has played a key role in community outreach programs, has been promoted to education and curriculum specialist.

“This moment is a celebration of everything we’ve built and a vision of where we’re headed,” said Caulkins in a statement. “Having Erick, Heather, Stephen, and Emmy on board, and Trish and Lori embracing these key roles, the future of Key Chorale has never looked brighter.”

Last season Key Chorale celebrated its Ruby Anniversary, marking 40 years of presenting innovative and high-quality choral programming to the area. Under Caulkins' leadership, Key Chorale has made a name for itself with creative collaborations with other area arts organizations, including the Sarasota Ballet, The Venice Symphony, Circus Arts Conservatory, Westcoast Black Theatre Troupe and more.

The 2025-26 season will be Caulkins' 19th at the helm of Key Chorale. Caulkins arrived in Florida in August 2007 from Illinois, where he was artistic director and conductor of the Bach Chamber Choir in Rockford and directed the St. Procopius Chamber Orchestra and Choirs at Benedictine University in Lisle.

In 2019, Caulkins was recognized for his tireless artistic efforts when he won the Arts Leadership Award for Artistic Achievement from the Arts and Cultural Alliance of Sarasota County.
