Navigating Medicare shouldn’t feel like learning a new language—but for many people approaching 65, it often does. Between Advantage vs. Medigap, drug plans, networks and an endless wave of marketing mailers, it’s easy to feel lost before you even begin. That’s why so many turn to Carlos Hernandez of Palomino Insurance, a guide who brings clarity, calm, and genuine care to a notoriously confusing process.
Founded in 2016 by Carlos’s father and named in honor of his grandfather, Palomino Insurance is built on a simple philosophy: “You catch more flies with honey.” Be kind, help people, and good things follow. Carlos has shaped his entire approach around that belief.

“By the time someone turns 65, they already have so much going on,” he says. “Add a digitized, confusing system on top of it, and it gets daunting fast.” His mission—“We insure your peace of mind”—is about giving clients confidence long before they ever need to use their coverage.
As an independent agent, Carlos makes the process manageable. He starts by helping clients clarify what they truly need. Then, using access to multiple carriers, options not always visible on Medicare.gov, he matches them with the right plan. His guidance is always free. “People get buried in marketing and sales pitches,” he says. “I cut through all of that.”
He stays current on Medicare options and tracks ongoing changes, including the upcoming 2026 updates. “More changes are coming,” he notes. “Part of my job is keeping an eye on everything, so clients don’t have to.”
Carlos brings a warm, easygoing style to every conversation. Many people nearing retirement worry they’re asking too many questions; he makes sure they never feel that way. “I’m always happy to talk,” he says.
His passion for helping people comes from choosing a kinder path after leaving the corporate world. During annual enrollment, he reconnects with clients, including many who first worked with his father—continuing a family legacy rooted in care.
His advice for anyone turning 65 soon? “Get outside. Move. Enjoy your life. Then make a list of your doctors and medications and give me a call. You might end up paying less than you think.”
