Manatee detectives investigate shooting, stabbing incident in Silver Lake

Manatee County Sheriff's Office detectives on Tuesday are investigating stabbing and shooting incidents that occurred in the 5200 block of 60th Drive East in the Silver Lake neighborhood of East County.

At approximately 8 a.m. Tuesday, deputies responded to the Silver Lake home to find Dakota Hayes, 21, outside the home with two gunshot wounds. His brother, 24-year-old Willie Hayes, came out of the home and said he shot his brother because he saw him stab Willie Hayes' girlfriend, who was not identified.

Deputies performed first aid on the woman until Emergency Medical Services personnel arrived. EMS transported the woman and Dakota Hayes to Sarasota Memorial Hospital.

Both remain hospitalized but are expected to survive, according to the Sheriff's Office report.

A Sheriff's Office release said the incident was isolated and there is no threat to the surrounding homes. Detectives continue the investigation.
