You Observed: Rotary Club of Longboat Key hosts Walk for Water

A group of Longboat Key residents went out for a stroll on March 27, but had something more in mind than exercise. 

About 10 members of the Rotary Club of Longboat Key set out for a Walk for Water in order to raise funds to build a sustainable water system in a community in Peru. They began at All Angels, where they held meetings before moving to Zoom meetings during the pandemic and strolled into 

The Longboat Key club tagged onto the Lakewood Ranch Rotary Club's efforts, as the two clubs are in the same district and have worked together in the past. The Lakewood Ranch club coordinates the local Rotary district's efforts in WASH, the water, sanitation and hygiene initiative led by Rotary International. 

There was no competition on the walk and participants were encouraged to donate whatever they felt comfortable contributing. In total, the Longboat Key contingent raised $1,200 to go towards a system that will provide clean water to 3,600 residents.
