Susan Meyers, president of the Gilbert W. McNeal Elementary School Parent Teacher Organization, did a nice job summing up the annual Sweetheart Dance.
Meyers said the Feb. 1 event at the school was a chance for the girls to dress up and to be treated like princesses.
About 400 people attended the event. The girls’ sweethearts included their dads, grandfathers, uncles or other important male figure in their lives.

Adults work to prepare McNeal Elementary for the dance, decorating the entrance with balloons and streamers.
Ron Kennedy gets a donut for his daughter, kindergarten student Taylor, at the beginning of the dance. Early arrivers found themselves in a much shorter line.

Some guys in the audience weren't afraid to show their dance moves — much to the amusement of some of the girls.
Students were eager to show the older guys in the crowd that they knew how to dance, too, when the "Cha-Cha Slide" came on.
Kids danced their heart out at McNeal elementary's Sweetheart Dance.
When the "Cha-Cha Slide" said to get low, some students took it very literally.

Approximately 400 people registered to attend the Sweetheart Dance, according to McNeal Elementary PTO President Susan Meyers.
