Cardinal Mooney claws back to beat Riverview on Senior Night

The Cougars rallied to win sets four and five

The Cardinal Mooney High (17-7) volleyball team wasn't about to give up.

Not ever, but especially not on Senior Night. No matter the opponent — in this case, the Riverview High Rams (17-6) — the Cougars weren't going to let their seniors lose their last regular season home match.

So they didn't. Even when down two sets to one, and on the brink of match point, the Cougars dug deep. They rallied and won the fourth set 26-24. They then used their momentum to take control of set five, winning that 15-12 and the match three sets to two.

It was an emotional night for the Cougars, who before the match honored seniors Sophia Hebda, Dalton Judge and Kali Plattner with flowers and speeches from juniors Madison Brown and Sophia Hritz as well as coach Chad Sutton.

After the match, Sutton called the senior trio "special," and noted that Plattner put the team on her back against the Rams, especially late, and called her "a beast." Plattner finished with 18 kills and 11 digs.

Hritz added 16 kills and 16 digs, and Brown, a libero, had 28 digs.

The Cougars will next play at The Out-of-Door Academy on Oct. 11 to finish the regular season.
