Hurricane's impact makes school days longer in Manatee County

School District of Manatee County students will have an additional 10 minutes tacked on their school days beginning Monday, Oct. 2 and running through Wednesday, Dec. 20 in the wake of Hurricane Irma.

The revision to make up for lost classroom time was announced by the district on Wednesday.

Also, Oct. 4 and Dec. 6 will no longer be professional learning early release days. Students will attend a full day on both dates.

Thanksgiving break will begin on Wednesday, Nov. 22 according to a district release. Students will attend a full school day on Monday, Nov. 20 and Tuesday, Nov. 21.

“We realize that hurricane make-up days can cause inconveniences for students and staff,” said Superintendent Diana Greene in a release. “However, it is extremely important that we make-up this essential instructional time so that our students can make necessary progress this school year. Looking back, we are thankful that we are adding make-up days to our school calendar as opposed to continuing to deal with damage from Hurricane Irma.”
