Friends of the Sarasota Ballet members were in for a surprise Oct. 16 at the FSU Center for the Performing Arts when Director Iain Webb introduced the season’s dancers.

He added a third name to the list of junior principals.

Lucas Erni, who was previously at the National Ballet of Uruguay, was promoted from his previous position as first soloist after only three weeks at the Sarasota Ballet.

“It’s a great start for me,” he said. “Iain is doing everything to keep pushing us, so I’ll do that too and try to keep up the level that he has set the company at.”

The occasion was Meet Me at the Barre, the first Friends event of the year and the first to get all the dancers and ballet employees introduced. After a brief program of introductions, Webb invited everyone to adjourn to the mezzanine where supporters, dancers and ballet staffers mixed and mingled over dinner and drinks.
