Manatee County is taking steps to quicken the collection of yard debris leftover from Hurricane Irma.

Starting Oct. 7, Waste Management, which hauls trash in southern areas of Manatee County, will run yard waste collection routes on Saturdays. Waste Pro, which hauls trash in north and western areas of Manatee County, will run yard waste routes on Saturdays and Sundays.

The extra routes will allow both haulers to catch up on the increased quantities of debris so normal yard waste collection routes can be completed in a single day, a county press release states.

Additionally, tipping for vegetative debris only will be waived at the Lena Road Landfill daily from Oct. 14 to Oct. 22. Residents may bring their yard waste and storm debris there, where it will be burned.

Additional information and updates will be posted at mymanatee.org/utilities as available. A debris collection status map will be available next week. It will indicate the residential debris collection areas that have been completed, areas where collection is occurring and anticipated areas where collection will occur next, the release states.
