Clyde Butcher has never photographed a portrait.

He has also never done commercial photography.

“I don’t want to be under pressure to do a good job,” Butcher said.

His theory seems to work well. On Nov. 2, he hosted a private reception at his third and newest gallery — this one on St. Armands Circle. Butcher, known for his black and white fine art photography, also has galleries in Venice and Ochopee. Butcher is a former architectural photographer but gave that up in 1969 and moved to landscape photography.

The gallery features Butcher’s work from wild and undisturbed places throughout his native Florida and across the country.

As guests wandered through the gallery, most stopped and shared their delight and awe with Butcher.

“The best part is when you see people smiling,” he said.
