Some of Nashville’s most famous songwriters got some dirt on their boots March 17 on the practice fields of Ed Smith Stadium, but it was all in the name of a good cause.
The occasion was the 2nd annual Nashville's Music Row Comes to the Ballpark, a charity concert hosted by the Orioles that benefits the Library Foundation for Sarasota County and Nashville’s Music Health Alliance. Festivities began with a VIP cocktail reception featuring several Grammy award-winning songwriters along with several Orioles players. Guests enjoyed drinks and hors d’oeuvres before taking their seats per request of event emcee Jim Hunter.
Programming began with a live auction featuring a VIP trip to Las Vegas for two, a golf foursome with football legend Jim Brown, the chance to be a bat boy or girl for the day and two tickets to any Orioles game plus a meet and greet with the players.
The real fun began when several renowned country music performers and songwriters took to the stage, including Liz Rose, Laura Veltz, Jimmy Robbins, Ryan Beaver and Margaret Valentine, who performed some of their biggest hits such as “White House,” “Drunk Last Night” and “We Were Us,” respectively.
Special guest performer was Jenae Cherry, a singer-songwriter who is married to Orioles pitcher Brad Bach and co-wrote the Orioles-inspired song “Don’t Miss the Magic” with musician Margaret Valentine.
