Sarasota residents show support for President Trump

Sarasota hosted a Spirit of America Rally, part of a national initiative to show support of President Trump.

The Spirit of America Rally began at noon March 4 at Bayfront Park, and it didn't take long for demonstration organizers to label the demonstration a success.

Sarasota residents were joined by residents from neighboring communities for the rally to support President Trump.

"I have almost cried a few times," event organizer Julie Brady said while looking around at the crowd that lined Bayfront Drive.

The demonstration was punctuated by honks of approval from passing vehicles.

However not all the passing vehicles approved of the pro-Trump sentiment of the rally. Between cheers and honks the occasional thumbs down was shoved outside the window of a passing car.

But their disapproval was precisely what propelled many protesters to attend the rally. Many said that recent anti-Trump demonstrations throughout the country motivated them to show support for the current administration and their fellow conservatives.

"We're really happy to have the unity in this community," event organizer Andrea Stanford said. "If we don't stand for something we are going fall for anything."
