The Sarasota Music Half-Marathon has announced a 10K addition to the race.

The 10K 2018 race, scheduled to take place Feb. 4, will begin minutes before the 4th-annual half-marathon, and will start from the Van Wezel Performing Arts Hall. Runners will then proceed over the Ringling Bridge, around St. Armand’s Circle, and return to Van Wezel, per a release.

The half-marathon participants will follow the traditional route south along Bayfront Sarasota.

"We are very excited to offer an alternative distance to the half-marathon," event director Ryan McCarthy said in the release. "I can’t tell you how many times I have listened to one of our repeat participants hype the half marathon to a friend, only to hear the friend sadly say, '13 miles is too much for me. Let me know when you add a 10K.' We heard the call and we’ve delivered.”

The 10K race will feature the same amenities as the half-marathon, including live music along the route, a beer stop on the last time, a T-shirt, breakfast, a finisher medal and admission to an after party with free beer.

Race registration opens Friday, July 14 at 9 a.m. To register or for more information, visit sarasotahalf.com
