At the center of almost every Sarasota institution are the volunteers that keep it going and Marie Selby Botanical Gardens is no different.

They are easy to miss answering questions and performing administrative duties, but at Selby Gardens on April 19, Selby's volunteers got their day in the sun.

The volunteers were treated to an evening in the garden and a dinner at Michaels on the Bay.

"They are the heart of the garden," Volunteer coordinator Vera Neumann - Wood said. "We wouldn't be able to function without them."
