As the 2-year-olds zipped around the Foundations Academy parking lot Sept. 8 to celebrate the upcoming Patriot Day on 9/11, administrator Douglas Cooley agreed they probably weren't going to digest the importance of the occasion.

"We do know they look forward to this day," Cooley said. "We want to instill that feeling into their young hearts."

With students from infancy to eighth grade at the Christian Montessori Academy, many students around the school did understand the importance of recognizing a time to commemorate the 9/11 attacks.

"This is both about remembering and celebrating," Cooley said. "We want to show that we love the red, white and blue, and we love America. Patriotism is good."

The school on Professional Parkway opened the day with a brief patriotic ceremony before classes took turns enjoying a continuous bike ride around the parking lot. A barbecue lunch was served to the students and faculty.
