As Gene Witt Elementary's first-grade class sang the Star Spangled Banner, Brittany Baker held up her cell phone with one hand while covering her heart with the other.

It appeared her husband, Joe Baker, was going to miss the Star Spangled Production concert on May 27. However, the Army sergeant who is deployed to the Middle East, was able to enjoy watching their daughter, Ryleigh, sing with a Skype connection.

It was quite the performance as the first-graders sang seven patriotic songs to the delight of the parents who packed Witt's multi-purpose room.

The event ended with a reception that included snacks before the students finished their final day of school before being released for the summer.
