A shootout in Myakka left a 35-year-old man dead Sunday, according to a news release from the Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office.

Jason Head, a Sarasota resident, allegedly confronted a resident on the 300 block of Myakka Road after 8 p.m. on Easter. Head fired a weapon at the unnamed resident, who returned fire, killing Head, according to the release.

“Detectives interviewed the other party involved, who has been cooperative and has since been released,” said Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman Kaitlyn Johnston.

Head was arrested in 2009 for possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, after an officer discovered a high-powered rifle, binoculars, gloves and a mask in his vehicle.
