Drivers in East County can expect temporary overnight closures at the intersection of University Parkway and Interstate 75 this weekend.

The Florida Department of Transportation has announced contractors expect a temporary detour overnight between 11 p.m. March 20 and 5 a.m. March 21 while crews re-stripe the lanes and adjust the traffic lighting on the ramps.

The work is part of FDOT's work to redesign the interchange of University Parkway and I-75 with a diverging diamond design.

Temporary intermittent single and double lane closures are in place at night/overnight on northbound and southbound I-75 Sunday, March 20 through Friday night, March 25 from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. Double lane closures begin at 10 p.m.  Motorists are asked to watch for trucks entering and leaving the highway.

Additionally, the contractor is driving piles during the day on the I-75 southbound bridge, installing drainage pipe throughout the project, widening the bridge at Foley Creek, widening the shoulder on I-75, and installing barrier wall. Watch for changes in the speed limit. Speeding fines are doubled when workers are present.
