It’s a hard-knock life, but not at summer camp.
Lakewood Ranch High School is hosting its 15th annual Acting Up musical theater camp, directed by theater teacher Roxane Caravan. Her theater students at Lakewood Ranch help out as counselors. This year’s production is Annie, Jr.
Camp attendees practice their lines, songs and dances, and also learn about theater, costuming and makeup. They also get to make art projects and spend time together. After three weeks of practice, the production will be held Thursday, June 30.
Pat Ross is the art instructor during camp, although she is a theater teacher at Manatee School for the Arts. She taught students the importance of costumes in a production and how a costume matching the time-period of the play helps set the scene for the audience.
“It’s fun,” she said. “I feel like I’m at camp, too.”
