For the first time since 2006, the Sarasota High girls basketball team won't be playing in a regional quarterfinal after falling to Palmetto 44-27 in the Class 7A-District 11 semifinals Jan. 27.

Freshman Kate Meyer led Sarasota with eight points and sophomore Imani Jones added seven points.

With the loss, Sarasota finished the season 19-7. The Sailors graduate one senior in DeQuandra Hill from this year's squad with four juniors and five underclassmen set to return next season.
