The Braden River High girls soccer team saw its season come to an end with a 4-3 loss to Cape Coral Ida Baker in the Class 4A-Region 3 quarterfinals Jan. 21.Â
Trailing 1-0, Braden River's Karen Lyvers scored in the 20th minute to tie the game at 1-1. The visiting Bulldogs responded with a pair of goals to take a 3-1 lead with 31 minutes left in regulation.Â
Megan Wagner scored off a cross from sophomore Joanne Gigliotti to pull the Lady Pirates within a goal.Â
Ida Baker responded with its fourth goal of the game before Gigliotti scored Braden River's final goal of the game off an assist from Sara Kate Tyson with nine minutes remaining.Â
"We played hard," Braden River coach Don Engelberger said. "Every time they got down all season long they fought back. The character of this team and the pride this team has, I'm very proud of them."Â
