The Braden River softball team improved to 3-0 on the season with a 5-2 victory versus rival Sarasota in non-district action Feb. 10.Â
The host Pirates scored three runs in the bottom of the first inning and were able to hold off the Sailors who broke onto the scoreboard in the top of the fourth inning.Â
Junior pitcher Lexie Phelps earned the win on the mound for the Pirates. Bethaney Keen hit a home run and scored a pair of runs to lead the way for Braden River at the plate. Sarah Crawford hit a RBI double and scored a run.Â
Senior Brittany Bendel got the call on the mound for Sarasota.Â
Braden River returns to action at 6:30 p.m. Feb. 11 versus Manatee while Sarasota travels to Charlotte.Â
