Ranch girls, Sarasota boys claim district crowns

The Lakewood Ranch, Sarasota and Riverview track teams competed in the Class 4A-District 8 meet April 20.

The Lakewood Ranch girls and Sarasota boys track and field teams walked away with Class 4A-District 8 championships April 20, at Booker High. 

The Mustangs scored 199 points to top Riverview, which finished second with 114 points. Sarasota was fourth with 68 points. 

On the boys side, the Sailors scored 126 points to beat Lakewood Ranch, which finished second with 115 points. Riveview was fifth with 79 points. 

The top four finishers in each event will advance to the Class 4A-Region 2 meet April 30, in Kissimmee. 

Individual area district champions include:

Sophia Falco (200, 24.70; triple jump, 37-05.50; long jump, 18-08) 

Kristine Akervold (100 hurdles, 14.48) 

Reide Ryans (high jump, 5-02) 

Olivia Ogles (pole vault, 11-01) 

Reide Ryans, Kailyn Scully, Kristine Akervold and Shay Lee (4x400 relay, 4:09.64) 

John Rivera (800, 1:58.85) 

Ben Lacina (pole vault, 14-00) 

Sam Jackson (discus, 154-00) 

Andrew Dean, John Rivera, Ian Griffin and Kris Haller (4x400 relay, 3:28.46)

Brady Hill (3,200, 10:04.19) 

Julian Tyler (110 hurdles, 14.73)

Xakari Hawkins (long jump, 22-06.50; triple jump, 45-00.50)
