At just middle- and high school- ages, 150 students statewide flexed their technology brainpower Oct. 24 at the Battle in Bradenton VEX Robotics competition held in the cafeteria at Carlos E. Haile Middle School.

Students from 35 schools statewide met at the East County school to show off their robots, which students created using concepts from science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) lessons.

Students competed by using remote controls to maneuver their robots around a course, and perform basic activities, such as launching a tennis ball into a basket.

The event was an early qualifier for the state competition, to be held in Orlando.
