The Riverview High football team notched its second win of the season with a 40-16 victory versus Hillsborough Riverview in Class 8A-District 6 action Oct. 9.Â
The host Rams took a 7-0 lead in the first quarter on an 10-yard run by Areon Green. Sarasota Riverview extended its lead in the second quarter when quarterback Dominic Caldwell connected with Riley Matthews for an 8-yard touchdown.Â
Hillsborough Riverview made a 25-yard field goal late in the second quarter for its first points of the game.Â
The Rams responded on their ensuing possession when running back Ali Boyce scored from 7 yards out to give Sarasota Riverview a 21-3 halftime lead.Â
Sarasota Riverview scored three touchdowns in the third quarter to take a 40-3 lead. Caldwell connected with Vince Sellers, Jr. for a 44-yard strike. O’Shea Grant then added a 7 yard touchdown run. Chris Mercandetti recovered a fumble on the ensuing kickoff and returned it 33 yards for a score.Â
With the win, Sarasota Riverview improved to 2-1 in the district.Â
