Bicycle riders of all ages and expertise didn't let rain, wind or 200 miles disrupt their view of the finish line.
The Team Tony Foundation hosted its sixth annual Cycle of Life event Oct. 2 through Oct. 4. Hundreds of participants rode from Ormond Beach to Lakewood Ranch — a 200-mile stretch. The first day, riders cycled 108 miles to Clermont. The second leg of their trip started at 7 a.m. when the first group of riders started the haul back to East County, where a party hosted by PGT Industries awaited them.
Family and friends of participants snapped photos on their smart phones and waved banners for their loved ones as they crossed the finish line at Lakewood Ranch Main Street.
Proceeds from the event benefited the Team Tony Foundation, an organization dedicated to providing resources to individuals diagnosed with cancer. Organizers aimed to raise $150,000.
"There was wicked wind, and some rain," first-time event participant Shanna Pentico said. "A few people crashed on the way here, because of the weather. But we made it, and I had a lot of fun."
