The Historical Society of Sarasota hosted its annual meeting and member potluck at the Bidwell-Wood House Saturday morning.

Members and guests gathered at the Crocker Memorial church for the annual update from President Howard Rosenthal and Treasurer Greg Dickinson. Rosenthal reflected on a year of restoration projects and a successful lecture series.  He presented the first-ever Hero of History Award to resident Jeff LaHurd for his continued efforts to recording Sarasota history. LaHurd addressed guests and thanked members for awarding him the honor.

“I love growing old here, just not the getting older part. I’ll treasure it always,” LaHurd said.

Two Distinguished Service awards were given to Viola Goldberg and Harriet Stieff. The presentation concluded with the nominations for officers and board members. All current officers and board memebers were re-elected for another two-year term.
