Where there’s smoke, there are ribs. At least that was the case for the 12th annual Sarasota Firefighters Rib Cook Off Saturday, March 14 at Phillippi Estate Park. Firefighters from throughout Sarasota County spent hours smoking, grilling and seasoning racks of pork ribs with the intention of bringing back the brass pig trophy back to their station.
Some participants based their recipes around a sauce, others preferred to focus on a spice rub to win the competition. Aside from sampling ribs attendees also enjoyed live music and the fire engine pull competition. Proceeds from the event will benefit the Sarasota Firefighters Benevolent Fund.
