Neighbors of the Palm Island community gathered Saturday afternoon, Feb. 28, for the Palm Island Neighborhood Association's annual picnic in Elsie Blair Park.
About 50 people attended the picnic; there are about 150 homes in the neighborhood. The island, which is heart-shaped and located in the middle of Siesta Key, has a blend of families, retirees, part time residents and rental properties.
"We all work together if someone needs help with something, it's a team effort to bring back yesterday of what a neighborhood used to be," said resident Richard Light.Â
Board President Howard Scherer encourages people to get involved in the association.
