Sarasota: 2015 Year in Sports

With the eve of a new year upon us, now is the perfect time to reflect on the most memorable sports moments of 2015.

It was an eventful year for area athletes across Sarasota who made headlines for their improbable comebacks, record-setting performances and historic runs.

Over the past year, we’ve celebrated district, regional and individual state championships. We saw the Sarasota softball and baseball teams both finish the season as state runner-ups, the Sarasota Christian boys and girls basketball teams make a repeat appearance in the Final Four and a talented senior lead the Cardinal Mooney boys basketball team into the Class 3A state semifinals for the first time in school history.

As another year comes to a close, the Sarasota Observer recognizes our athletes' prolific accomplishments with our "2015: Year in Sports."

Throughout the next couple of pages, you will get a chance to meet five of the area’s top teams and five defining moments from the past year in sports. You’ll also get to relive all of the action with our collection of photos highlighting some of our favorite moments from the past year.

With so many talented athletes of all ages, it’ll be exciting to see what 2016 has in store.

We wish all of your happy and healthy New Year, and we look forward to embarking on another memorable year with you. How high will our talented athletes climb next year? Only time will tell, so let’s enjoy the ride together.
