Organizations from Sarasota and Manatee Counties met in Lakewood Ranch to remember women's suffrage.Â
Groups set up booths for the first half of the Women's Equity Luncheon, held at the Polo Grill on Lakewood Ranch Main Street. Hosted jointly by the Sarasota and Manatee chapters of the League of Women Voters, the "Reflect, Celebrate, Engage" brought women together to celebrate the 95th anniversary of the success of the 19th Amendment, allowing women to vote. Dorothy Ridings, the former president of the National League of Women Voters, was the guest speaker.Â
"It's so important for women to have a voice. We're explaining to women today how hard women had to struggle to get the right to vote." — Anita Jain
