Palm-Aire hosts Men’s Classic

Palm-Aire Country Club held its 22nd annual Men’s Classic Tournament March 11-14. 

Players from Canada and across the country, including New York, Pennsylvania, Texas, Wisconsin and Rhode Island, among others, participated in this year’s event. 

Bruce Knight and Jim Travers won the three-day shootout. 

The tournament also featured ladies events, including a mini golf clinic, putting contest, raffle and Puttin’ on the Glitz fashion show. Proceeds from the event benefited the Safe Place and Rape Crisis Center of Sarasota. 

SCORES 

Lakewood Ranch

Bob Mollicone used his 8-iron to record an ace March 24 on the 143-yard No. 2 of Cypress Links. 

Patty Bongiorno scored 62 to win Flight 1 of the individual stroke play net WGA event March 24, on Cypress Links. Carolyne Spears scored 66 to win Flight 2. Nancy Rogers, Rosie Levin and Ellie Weiss each scored 70 to tie for first place in Flight 3. Janie Griffin scored 64 to win Flight 4. 

 

Palm-Aire

Barbara Harrison scored 153 to win the Red Flight of the 36-hole WGA Club Championship March 24-26. Anne Marie Henry scored 164 to win the Blended Flight. Marilyn Helm scored 188 to win the Green Flight. 

Barbara Costello, Marcia Knight, Joanne Fisher and Kathy Siegrist scored 30.65 to win the step-a-side scramble WGA event March 26, on the Lakes Course. 

Judy Stickler and Rita Probst each scored 15 to tie for first place in the throw out par 5s WGA individual event April 2, on the Champions Course. 

Randy Locke, Carol Sparrow and Mark and Marci Weibel scored 57.85 to win Flight 1 of the scramble with a twist April Fools’ event April 4. Steve and Roseann Dube and Steve and Joan Fleischman scored 62.55 to win Flight 2. Tim and Anne Millard and Bill and Judy Leach scored 64.30 to win Flight 3. 

 

River Club

Barb Coletta, Cathy Rogers, Noel Pressler and P.J. McCaleb scored 111 to win the 1-2-3 LGA event March 18. 

Gary Robson and Gordon Harrison finished +13 to win the MGA quota points event March 18. 

Kathy La Stella, Marian Lucia, Suzanne Van Gundy and Lise Hunter scored 111 to win the 1-2-3 low net LGA event March 24. 

Taffie Brisley, Susan Schuster and Judy Wayer finished -14 to win the one best ball of three LGA event March 28. 

 

Rosedale 

Norma McClurg, Linda Gawel, Jo Weidenhammer and Susie Meloche scored 136 to win the ABCD 3-2-1 on 5-4-3 event March 19. 

Wynonna Bonomi, Donna Mursh and Sally Kelby scored 19 to win the one best ball even nine-hole event March 24. 

Cheryl Moyer finished +6 to win Flight 1 of the individual LGA quota points event March 26. Lin McLaughlin finished +6 to win Flight 2. Diane Weissenberg finished +9 to win Flight 3. 

 

Tara

Mike Morgan used his 5-iron to record an ace March 23 on the 160-yard No. 4 of Tara Golf & Country Club. 

Jerry Prazek used his 7-iron to record an ace March 23 on the 145-yard No. 4 of Tara Golf & Country Club. 

Walter Limmer and Sylvia Henky Beck scored 156 to win the low gross championship of the Couples Championship March 23. Jack and Ginger Leahy scored 109 to win the low net championship. The teams of Scott Thompson and Carol Miers and Adrian and Pauline Bourne both scored 121 to tie for first place in Flight 1. Tom and Linda Quirk scored 117 to win Flight 2. Rick and Sandy Green scored 126 to win Flight 3. 

Tom Kunzman, Joe Koddermann, Ken Hawthorn and Edgar Day finished -27 to win the two best balls of four MGA event March 25. 

 

University Park

Harry See, Jim Johnson, Tom Bauer and Bill Collins scored 119 to win the 10 and 19 portion of the two best balls of four net MGA event April 1. Martin Graaf, Maurice Charlebois, Werner Baumgartner and Bernd Ferber scored 124 to win the 19 and 1 portion. 

Gladys Geddes scored 32 to win the low net LGA nine-hole event April 2. 

Lynn Lockhorn scored 95 to win the overall championship of the low gross and low net LGA nine-hole club championship April 2. Judy Whitson scored 101 to win the gross portion of Flight 1 while Sharon Halverson scored 72 to win the net portion. In Flight 2, Lynne Marlow (106) won the gross portion while Mary Jane Sanacore (75) won the net portion. In Flight 3, Carolyn Kluding (120) won the gross portion and Joann Snedeker (77) won the net portion.
