Students at Southside Elementary School had the opportunity to explore the world without leaving campus. The Parent Teacher Organization planned a day full of globetrotting and experiencing new cultures for the annual Celebrate Learning Day on Thursday, April 2. Classes were canceled for the day while students stamped pretend passports and jumped from continent to continent to learn linedancing, animal fun facts and yoga. All seven continents were represented with an area on campus decorated with flags and activities that represent the countries.
For Africa students enjoyed a presentation from the Sarasota Jungle Gardens that included a ball python and an African grey parrot. In Europe students replicated paintings by famous artists and learned how to dance flamenco. Asia included a yoga session, obstacle course that included Tae Kwon Do elements and seaweed chips to taste.
