Motorcyclist dies following afternoon crash

The motorcyclist involved in a crash that snarled traffic on the John Ringling Bridge Monday, died from his injuries later that night, according to a Sarasota Police Department news release.

Emergency personnel trasported Thomas Ballerino, a 54-year-old man from Eastham, Mass., by helicopter to Blake Medical Center after the accident, which occured at roughly 2:45 p.m. Ballerino, who was not wearing a helmet, side-swiped a car while weaving through traffic and lost his balance before the crash, according to witness reports.

Sarasota Police are still investigating the crash, according to the release.
