The Manatee County Board of County Commissioners are slated to discussion funding for Manatee Glens for Baker Act and inpatient detox service, among other items, at their regularly scheduled meeting Aug. 7.

The meeting will be held at 9 a.m. in the county administrative building, 1112 Manatee Ave. W., Bradenton.

The Manatee Glens sent a letter of request to the Board of County Commissioners June 28 to provide a $350,000 annual increase in detox services and a $195,000 increase in Baker Act Services effective Oct. 1 of this year.

According to Manatee Glens, the prescription pain pill epidemic and loss of jobs and health insurance of many families has brought a dramatic increase in Detox and Baker Act inpatient admissions over the last three years. The Manatee Glens says it has seen a 78% increase in adult detox needs and a 14% increase in Baker Act services.

Previously, at a Aug. 2 meeting, the Manatee Community Consortium voted to support this funding to Manatee Glens for a period of three years. The Consortium is a stakeholder organization of agencies focusing on mental health and substance abuse issues specific to Manatee County.
