+ King Family Farm hosts 5K for family
This weekend, the King Family Farm will host a family-friendly 5K Walk and Roll fundraiser for Bradenton man, Mitch Moore, who lost the use of his legs 12 years ago in a traffic accident.

The event will be held Sept. 17 at the farm, 4630 60th St. E. Registration starts at 8:30 a.m. and the walk starts at 9 a.m. There is no registration fee, but donations are welcome.

The event will start at the farm’s marketplace. Festivities include music by the River Boys, and attendees are welcome to bring picnic lunches to enjoy on the farm after the walk. Moore’s daughter, Haley, will have a lemonade stand on site.

Moore and his family are trying to raise $50,000 to fund a monthlong trip to Panama, where Moore will receive treatment at the Stem Cell Institute in Panama City, Panama. There, doctors will take Moore’s umbilical and bone marrow stem cells as part of a treatment to help him walk again.

For more about the walk or to donate to the Moore family, contact Marti King at 447-7259.

+ Boys & Girls Clubs dedicate space to senator
The Boys & Girls Clubs of Manatee County recently dedicated a newly renovated teen center at the Bradenton Club in honor of Sen. Mike Bennett and his wife, Dee.

“I am amazed and continually impressed by all the good that the Boys & Girls Clubs do in our community,” Mike Bennett said. “The people of the state of Florida should be aware of the valuable return on investment realized by this organization, which provides young kids the opportunity to stay away from a life of crime and reach their full potential as responsible citizens.”

The teen center includes technology with interactive games and pingpong and pool tables.
