Temple hosts community service day

Families from Temple Emanu-El celebrated a spirit of giving recently as they headed out to East County locations to complete service projects.

More than 250 volunteers turned out for "Mitzvah Day" on May 1. The congregation-side event was an afternoon of donation drives and hands-on community service projects.

Projects included sorting food at the food bank, visiting a nursing home with a team of therapy dogs, crafting bracelets to benefit Manasota B.U.D.S. (Bringing Up Down Syndrome), making cards for soldiers serving overseas and decorating cookies for firefighters.

Volunteers also made a special visit to Honor Sanctuary Animal Rescue's new Lorraine Road location.
