First Step of Sarasota held its eighth annual Caring Hearts Luncheon Feb. 17, at Michael’s On East. The event, which benefits the mothers and infants program, raised nearly $40,000.

Detroit native Paul Welch received the 2011 Caring Heart of the Year Award for his support to the community through programs that benefit children and teens.
