This year’s Outstanding Senior Award at Cardinal Mooney Catholic High School went to Joie Giannini and Culhane Cole, who were recently honored during the school’s annual Senior Awards Night, at Hyatt Regency Sarasota.

The award recognizes a female and a male student who exhibit qualities of intellectual achievement, religious and moral responsibility, sense of purpose and direction, and personal and social responsibility.

Giannini was the student government president during her senior year, a member of the National Honor Society and on the varsity basketball team. She will attend the University of Central Florida this fall.

Cole was president of the National Honor Society and will receive a Cardinal Mooney honors diploma. In addition, he held key roles in the theater department’s productions and was captain of his school football team.

He will attend Florida State University.

Cardinal Mooney’s graduating class received more than $4.5 million in academic scholarships. The majority of students have received Florida Bright Futures Scholarships, which represent nearly $1 million in tuition funding.
