Eating contests are usually associated with large amounts of meat at some sort of a state fair venue. This weekend, Veg held their very own eating contest involving veggie burgers on Saturday, Feb. 5 outside of their restaurant on Gulf Gate Drive. Owners of Veg, Marty and Maggie Glucklich, held the veggie burger eating contest to celebrate the 1st anniversary of their restaurant.

The three competitors in the contest included Trevor Goehring, 3rd place, Chris DeLeonardo, 2nd place, and Dr. Patrick Dower, 1st place. Due to the close race, a tie-breaker had to occur between DeLeonardo and Dr. Dower

The winner, Dr. Dower, said that he participated in the event because he wanted to, “support good friends… and the food is excellent”. The Glucklich’s gave everyone plain veggie burgers to take home but the contestants could barely look at another veggie burger so the burgers went to their friends and family members who came out to support them. Dr. Dower won not only the coveted trophy but also a dinner for two at Veg.
