Valuables totaling $54,000 stolen from Lakewood Ranch home

The Manatee County Sheriff's Office is investigating a burglary Dec. 16 in which a subject stole more than $54,000 worth of watches, jewelry and a hand gun, among other items.

A sheriff's office report states the home of Jorge Alvarez was burglarized sometime between 2 p.m. and 9 p.m. Dec, 16, while Alvarez was out of town. Unknown persons pried open the sliding glass door just north of the bedroom door that leads into the living room.

Once inside, the suspect(s) removed watches from the night stand of the bed, and also went into the walk-in closet and stole more watches, jewelry and a bag that contained a 45-caliber Glock handgun with two loaded magazines.

The victim's hospital I.D. also was in the bag, the report states.
