Meet the new Lakewood Ranch

APRIL FOOLS' DAY —  After watching the incorporation debate rage in their neighboring community to the south, leaders in Heritage Harbour, GreyHawk Landing, Greenfield Plantation and Mill Creek have organized to petition for incorporation.

The four East County communities have submitted an application to the state to become the city of Lakwood Ranch. Residents in those communities will have an opportunity to vote on the application in a special election this fall.

Officials from Lākwood Ranch said they modified the Fishkind study using their own population and tax numbers to determine incorporation not only was feasible but also beneficial for their residents.

So far, no residents have expressed opposition.
