The girls of Girls Inc. Sarasota are boosting their physical activity for the six-week Step It Up Challenge. The challenge encourages girls and their families to work on a simple but effective goal of taking more steps daily.

The Girls Inc. Step It Up Challenge was developed with support from The Cocoa-Cola Foundation and is designed to engage girls of all ages and abilities to stay active.

The Sarasota girls will be joining 37 Girls Inc. affiliates across North America to increase the number of steps they take by 25 percent. To record how many steps they’ve taken, girls are given a special Girls Inc. pedometer to wear.

“I am really proud to lead this activity,” says Gloria Jara-Macias, commissioner of Girls Inc.’s micro-society Dream Harbor. “It is healthy for us and it is fun to be active.”
