Cyclist killed on Siesta Key

A bicyclist on Siesta Key was killed in a collision with a car on Sunday, the Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office reported.

Although the Florida Highway Patrol was primarily investigating the 1:22 p.m. incident, sheriff’s deputies are assisting with the case, according to spokesman Lt. Jason Mruczek.

Beach Access 9, in the vicinity of the intersection of Beach Road and Plaza De Las Palmas, was reported to be closed.

The Sheriff’s Office said the cyclist was taken by ambulance to a hospital and later pronounced dead.
