As the reconstruction of the 17th Street Park Regional Sports Complex in north Sarasota County continues, Sarasota County Parks, Recreation and Natural Resources has partnered with Peak Events to announce the launch of the Sarasota College Softball Classic, set for Feb. 11-14, 2027.

Schools scheduled to participate: Alabama, Baylor, Florida State, James Madison, Ohio State, and Texas State.

“We are extremely excited to have the opportunity to work alongside Sarasota County in hosting this premier NCAA Division I softball event,” said Peak Events Vice President Nathan Wooldridge in a news release. “Combined with great teams and the beautiful setting of Sarasota, we hope to make this the primary early-season destination for the country’s best programs.”

The 2027 Sarasota Classic will host 15 games over four days at the 17th Street Regional Sports Complex, which is scheduled for completion December 2026. Four games will be held each on Thursday, Friday and Saturday, and three on Sunday. All games will be held at the facility’s new championship field.

“Hosting the Sarasota College Softball Classic at the new 17th Street Park Regional Sports Complex reflects Sarasota County’s strategic investment in sports tourism,” said Parks Recreation and Natural Resources Director Nicole Rissler in the news release. “This tournament will not only bring elite collegiate competition to Sarasota County, but will also create opportunities for residents, families and young athletes to experience a world-class sports facility right here at home.

Information about the schedule, tickets and other details will be released at a later date.
