John Colon files for Manatee County School Board seat

Sarasota financial adviser John Colon has formally entered the race for the Manatee County School Board.

Colon, a resident of University Park who was appointed to the School Board just two meetings ago following the death of incumbent Mary Cantrell, filed Monday for the District 5 seat he currently occupies. 

Colon said he hopes to be a unifying voice on the School Board and to help bring consensus to the board and help lead the district toward financial health.

"I felt I might be able to bring some of my small expertise," he said, noting Scott encouraged him to take the seat longterm.
